The Wave

The Wave is a multi-purpose steel community market located on the coast of Lake Ontario in Newcastle. Situated near the town’s cherished Bondhead Marina on underdeveloped land. Its form takes on the organic shapes of water, emulating the ebb and flow of the waves lapping against the shoreline. The community aspect was a core concept from the beginning of the design. The fish-scale like units are scaled to allow local community volunteers to help construct the canopy and form a meaningful connection to the much needed new market. The scales themselves have a refractive film that resembles the iridescence of fish scales while casting aquatic patterns on the cobblestone. As Newcastle expands, The Wave will attract people to this small town to support local businesses at this thriving community hub.
